Default New Audi Owner in seek of advice/help.

I Just purchased a 2001 Audi TT 225 Quattro w/6spd
So far i have been very pleased by the look and performance of the vehicle.
First things first this is my second turbo vehicle the first one was a 1989 240sx with the sr20det, i did the FMIC, Fuel Inj etc, so when i ask these questions its not because idk any better its because iam new to the European market and have some questions about this Recirculation turbo system.

First question, what in your opinion was the best upgrade you did that gave you the most bang for the buck.
also i was looking at the k04 upgrade kits, now the k04 is that a completely different turbo than what is on the vehicle now or can i just get the inj, and the tune, and the FMIC and all that. And can anyone tell me about this recirc system and why it is bad to have a BOV that vents to the atmosphere.

second question, owning 4 cyl NA or turbo vehicles in my past i was always extremely careful of my exhaust choice i have had a few times where i had to change my DP, or Headers or complete Catback exhaust and sometimes mix and match to get rid of the elusive RICER (can of angry bees) sound. with this car would i have a problem with that regardless of my upgrades , iam looking at doing a full 3 in all the way back with Borla as my catback choice and hi flo cats. if you have a better suggestion please let me know.

third question, I LOVE Cams , cams, cams they really unlock a vehicles performance when matched with a full flowing intake and exhaust system, i have been searching and searching and cant seem to find a company who makes a higher grind profile intake and exhaust cam for this vehicle all i can seem to find is cam gears, also i noticed that this engine is of the interference type and timing belts tend to go. how often do you recommend changing the timing belt the car is currently at 88,500 miles and i have no clue when it was last done.

Fourth question, Throttle Body?? is there a performance one made for this vehicle at all?

Last question, The car is great handles well, love the 6spd transmission and the awd, when i drove the car off the lot earlier this week there werent any abnormal noises now, when the suspension is compressed at all ie, under acceleration or going under any stress of the slightest bit i hear this squeaking noise coming from the back of the vehicle, its either my springs or my struts but im not sure is it common for these cars struts or springs to go out with the amount of miles i have on it?

Now that iam finished
thanks guys in advance for you advice/expertise.

First of all, welcome. Always glad to meet someone who appreciates the TT, especially one who lives so close.

IMHO and I know that of many others, the best bang-for-your-buck upgrade is a remap. Hands down. I have a REVO map which I got done at NA Motorsports in Vernon. Great guys, you should definitely check them out. The TT 225 comes stock with a K04, and the cost to go BT is quite a jump to make.

As far as the recirc system is concerned, searching will get you much more technical information, but basically, the air that is recirc’d back is monitored by the ecu, and helps determine different engine parameters. If it is the noise you are looking for, look at the Forge Splitter. It splits the air 50/50 and gives you the required recirc, with the blow off sound. I love mine.

There are many options for exhausts for the TT, I however cannot give much advice, as I have not purchased one yet. I will tell you that prices, IMO, are outrageous, and I will be getting one from the classifieds if and when I do decide to buy.

Cams. I will have to agree with you that cams are a great way to unlock power, however I have not heard much history on caming our particular motors. I have found this site, who offer a intake cam for the 20V 1.8T, however, the 225 already comes with different cams than the other 1.8’s so I would definitely do some research before purchasing.

As for timing belt. Check your local Audi dealer, you should get a free timing belt check now, and at 120,000 mi I believe. More than likely they will tell you to change it [*cough* to cover their *** *cough*]. I purchased an entire timing belt kit from ECS Tuning, and had it done by an independent Euro specialist, and the total was under 1k, much better than the over $1,800 Audi quoted me…

Throttle bodies, I will have to let you search on, I know that there have been some part stealing upgrades from other audi’s and vw’s but I don’t know enough on the subject to comment.

Squeaking noise is most likely ARB bushings. Here http://www.wak-tt.com/antiroll/antiroll.htm is a good tutorial on taking care of that problem. Also go back to the main Wak-TT page for a goldmine of TT tips, tricks, how-to’s and links.

Anyway, that should be enough to get you started. Enjoy. If you see a Silver 225 Coupe with orange calipers, give a honk and a wave.

The recall for the timing belt has expired so if you haven't had it inspected yet or the previous owner didn't you are SOL.

At 88,000 miles and 9 years old you are in serious jeopardy. You could wreck the motor . I replaced the one on my 2001 at 79,000 miles and the tensioner (which is the main point of failure) was barely hanging on.This was a very common problem and hence the recall. There are people who have this failure as early as 55,000 miles on the 1.8T engine.

You should do this job before you do anything else. Parts are less an $350 make sure you do the water pump, tensioner, thermostat as well the belt.

APR Tuning has a Large intake manifold as well throttle body. Their remapping/chip is one of the best.
a short shifter I would go with a dieselgeek.com one..... As far as the BOV take a look at GFB STEALTH DBOV and it can use Forge motor sports BOV cold side kit. forge has a excellent FMIC The noise may be the bushings

but MJMautohause.com has a great combo price on "Yellow Koni" and Nuespeed sway bars and they will let you trade for 25 mm front and 22 mm for rear

out of the stock ko4 you can get 325 hp at the wheels now of course need new flywheel and clutch... but APR has a stage III kit for about 7k which boast 395 hp

Bushings TTSTUFF.com has lowered their price to low on PowerFlex & their Defcon are good. SuperPro now has come out with a set for the TT Q Do not forget your Dog Bone!!!!!!!

those a quickly off the top of my head.......

left out best bang for buck I wanted to hear my car I went with a BORLA cat back I love the sound and I am adding a 42 Draft Design 3 inch down pipe and their out there exaust manifolds I do no have time now but will post l8r....
