New Audi TT to launch in 2005 (Forgive if re-post)

New Audi TT to launch in 2005, Audi A6 coupe due in 2006

Automobilwoche / 2003-07-07

Ingolstadt. Audi is busy developing the successors to the successful TT-series.

The TT coupe -- front- and rear-end design of which will resemble that of the Nuvolari concept car -- will be introduced at the Geneva auto show in spring 2005. It will be available in the showrooms from the summer.

A year later the roadster version will be launched -- again with a classic soft top.

Both TT models will for the first time have aluminum bodies. Production will be moved from Gyor, Hungary to Neckarsulm, Germany. This move is supposed to secure the jobs that will become available once the production of the A2 supermini finishes.

The planning for a large Audi coupe is also taking shape: the 2 + 2 based on the platform of the A6 successor will have a steel body. The car will be presented at the IAA Frankfurt auto show in 2005 and will be available from the beginning of 2006.

I still don't buy the aluminum rumors.

Perhaps if it is just aluminum panels and not a full ASF.

Hey, what part of Oregon are you from...

I'm only asking, 'cause I'm from Eugene and a lot of the pictures on your picture site looked like familiar places.

How reliable is this information?? All aluminum bodies???

JohnLZ7W 07-07-2003 03:32 PM

I'm in the Portland area

but I end up taking drives to lots of locations up in the NW corner of the state.

Why not? Neckarsulm already set up to build an ASF car since A2 is now kaput. Makes sense to me.

JohnLZ7W 07-08-2003 09:35 AM

I don't buy an ASF because they don't have a platform for it.

Unless they see the TT as being a high enough volume or they are going to price it alot higher than what it is now I can't see them using a one-off chassis for the TT. It'll probably be a B6 or A5 chassis. Now aluminum body panels on the other hand is another story and would be pretty cool. I wonder how much total weight they would save. We already have an aluminum hood right?
