Default new problem??

I just took a trip from chicago to mackinac island and when I arrived at the island saw a crack approximately 6" long on my front windshield on the passenger side...I checked for chips, rocks, etc. ,but nothing....by the time I got back to Chi. the crack had taken a right turn (towards passenger door) for about 10" and is still movbing daily...obviously a defect, and Audi will fix it, but..check your windshields...

Default Why is that a defect? Audi is paying?????????

I dont see why a cracked windshield constitutes as a defect? On nearly every car I have ever owned cracks have formed eventually due to impact or simply a large heat gradient across the windshield (rather common here in Arizona). I also from my experience have trouble believing Audi would cover this? Its like them replacing tires because a nail went through one....<p>Stephen

I have replaced 1 windshield under warranty for a stress crack. I speculate that on installation the windshield is not set exactly right and with torsional flex the windshield frame contacts a part of the glass causing a crack to appear with no sign of impact. If there is no impact it can be replaced at Audi's expense - but if there is a chip or a ding anywhere in the crack - no deal!

I agree with you Steve.....when this happened I was inder 1,000 miles and there were no chips, dings, etc. it started at the base of the window and worked its way up, which means to me that either the glass was defective or it was improperly set, as you mentioned.....Skip

Default Good Explanation

Although I've never had this sort of mishap with a windshield it is nice to know that it can and does happen that way I will be more suspicious if it does happen to me when i get my TT. Thanx Steve!
