Default Nightmare TT problem...

I own (very soon to be sold) a 2000 180fwd which I treasured more than anything (I owned a 99 A4 before that). The other day, my car flipped out: gauges were bouncing, car was beeping, lights were flashing, and worst of all BRAKES AND ACCELERATION WERE INTERMITTENLY UNRESPONSIVE. I couldn't stop on the freeway!! Apparently I had a "faulty" battery and the pedals are controlled electronically. That is VERY unsafe, so I'm selling my TT and will never own another Audi. I bought my car from Continental Motorcars in Melbourne, FL and had it "repaired" at Classic Audi in Orlando, neither of which cared about my concern for my and my girlfriends safety. Please be patient with me, I may be bashing them here for a while. Be careful and have your battery tested regularily... its scary to be unable to control a steel machine doing 70mph into slowing traffic. Just a heads up!

Duke thinks that's very sad, but perhaps you're throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Default actually, brakes are electrical, not electronic, so they will work ...

even if the battery is cut off. The brakes are electrically assisted power brakes, so when the engine and battery are on, they are soft and less effort is required on the operator. When the vehicle dies, the brakes need to be forced (really forced) to be applied, but they can be made to work.

The throttle on the other hand is electronically controlled.

Good luck, and sorry.

Default Nobody has a good experience with Classic Audi. Nobody.

Your problem sounds like a bad ground or short.

I know it must have been very scary to haved this happen to you. Terrible thing to lost brakes like that.

Have you contacted AoA?

The great passion this automobile brings out in people transmutes itself into great anger when things go wrong. It's a 1:1 relationship to me.

I have had more than my share of problems, and have been disgrunTTled, too.

I hear Continental is at least OK for service. I know it would be a major inconvenience, but perhaps you could have them look over the car. I can personally vouch for Key Audi In Jacksonville. Again, inconvenient but if they can check the car over and reassure you it's OK, then you may be able to rekindle the love affair.

I have met folks at Key that were there becuase they were disgruntled, angry and ready to blow up Classic and they also seemed to be happy with Key.

E-mail me for names & numbers of who to talk to at Key if you are so inclined.

Default And when all else fails, give the parking brake a good yank.

Default I had a pretty good experience with them...

Got my S4 from them and it had a chip on the fender upon delivery. Had them repair it and recieved it within a week. Even gave me an A6 loaner. The salesmen were helpful to me as well.

Havent had a problem with them yet, but went to have my oil changed today there and they are backed up for a week and a half.

Sorry to hear about your problems. I too have suffered from incompetent mechanics.

But, your brakes should not have failed. The vacuum assist for the power brakes may have lost power due to the intermittent power failure, but you should have still retained hydraulic brake control.

Typically, with a complete loss of engine power, you should still have 1-2 complete depressions of the brake pedal with power assist. After that, you are on hydraulics alone.

But if your car was able to continue moving under its own power, you should have still had power brakes.

You can remove every single last bit of electronics from your braking system and it would still work. If you removed all power sources to your braking system, it would still work -- you would just have to press down on the pedal harder.

My car was butchered at AutoHaus of Royal Oak, MI. Ask me about it!
