Noisey Rear Trunk/Hatch

Noisey Rear Trunk/Hatch
i just bought a CPO o2' TT225 6spd Coupe ... the rear trunk of the car is very noisey when I go over bumps. I took it to the local dealer, the guy told me its the piece that conceals the trunk from people looking inside to see my contents. He took it out and flexed it a little, and it did squeek, he said drive with it out ... to see if all the noise goes away. I drove without it, noise was reduced but there still is some rattle, anybody have any idea what it could be?

It may not be the so-called privacy shelf . . .
Two other possibilities: the latch mechanism itself and the little rubber bumpers on the edge of the hatch.
Lubricate the latch mechanism (upper and lower parts) with white lithium grease.
Also, you may need to adjust the bumpers. Move the closed hatch up and down to see if it's tight. If there's any movement (and it can be magnified when you go over bumps), do this: There's a little Allen screw (sorry, forgot what size) deep inside the center of them. Use one hand to support the bumper shaft and the other to loosen the screw. When it's very loose (it will feel floppy, which is why you should hold it tightly), you can extend the bumper shaft one notch at a time. Lengthen each one a couple of notches and see if it makes a difference. Again, be very careful to hold the shaft while you're loosening it--you don't want it to come apart because you'll then lose your beginning reference point.
May the sound of silence be yours!
