Default Is this normal?....gap in front axle boot.....

I was putting new brakes on my TT today and noticed that on the driver's side front axle, the boot appears separated. It doesn't look torn, I just can't believe that it would be open like that. I can clearly see grease inside. My gut just tells me there's something wrong.

Please help.....

Default That's bad.. you have a ripped boot, they usually give way on the creases

Get it fixed asap. You will also need to carefully inspect the CV joint, if there are rocks or metal chips in there you have likely done significant damage to the joint and will need to replace that as well.

Default I just replaced this boot due to a tear. There was like a double lip on that

side that was pretty difficult to slip over the half shaft. Meaning, very tight. The original may have had one of those one time use clamps on it. Regardless, this isn't right. This wasn't a fun repair. I pulled the strut & took off the hub and shaft in one piece. I would guess 2 to 3 hours for a shop. Good luck.

CV joint boot is gone south but I can clearly see that the suspension arm will also soon to be replaced if you keep using it for supporting the car weight.

Better use the big black donuts under the body. Just an adise

Default That is the inner boot. The outer is just behind the rotor.. I don't know the Part #

you might try searching the archive or giving World Impex a call. I think this is the link to the CV Joint assembly, but there isn't enough info to know what all is included.

World Impex CV Joint kit

Default Make sure you wipe out as much of the old grease as possible before regreasing. >>>

When you do, check closely in the grease for any bits of metal or rocks. Depending on how long the boot has been torn, you could have trashed the CV Joint.
