Not reading engine temp!!!
Hello, this may be a bit drawn out but I want to try and find out what's going on. For starters I have a 2001 Audi TT 180 and the dash has been slowly dying off. It started with the temp gauge reading maxed out and the center display shot. I would use the climate control to keep an eye on the engine temp and all was well till yesterday.
I got in the car and was driving around when I saw the climate control said the temp was at 121 deg c. I pulled over and looked under the hood and there was no way this thing is running hot, so off I went to the house and hooked up my Genesis scan tool. As I thought, engine temp right at 190 after a few good pulls. So I did the 49c trick and it was reading -10c and the gauge on the dash now only reads cold and will not move.
Off the that parts store I went to get another temp sensor for further diag and it is still reading the same. My question is where dose the climate control get the temp info from. I don't think it's the ECM as its showing the proper temp on my scan tool. I got a replacement dash pod on order and hope that will fix it but I just want to see what you all think.

I had a similar problem and had to replace the thermostat and sensor - about $500. Benefit besides reading temperature correctly is that heat and a/c seem to work better. I had already done the pod a few years ago.
