But I see a "Freedom Design Boost Controller for Audi/VW 1.8T drive by wire cars. Is this BS? There's also BLITZ SBC i-D (Sequential Boost Controller i-D...not sure if these are as good as the boost machine in actual function, or if they'll work with the ECU

It allow for the setting of both boost PSI and Boost onset (how soon it comes on). It also controls spiking and is a ten minute install.. Most of the manual boost controllers are "Ball and spring" types which are really just crude relief valves. The electronic varieties control the N75 which sends the signal to the wastegate. A boost machine functions essentially like a variable N75 and works with it to maintain taper and safety factors. It also has a one way valve which spills pressure in the wastegate line on shifting for immediate boost as you shift to the next gear. 180's really don't need the relief valve as they spool pretty fast. Both 225's and 180's benefit from less lag and adjustable boost. Boost gauge and chip recommended for either. I named and perfected the Boost Machine, and it's been on my car for 2.5 years. Many have built them and been really pleased. I can build you one for a lot less than the commercial controllers if interested....
