about even with the door handle and maybe three inches back from where the door closes.
so this dent guy tells me the ONLY way he can access it is to drill a small hole on the inside of where the door closes.
it wont be visible when the door is closed.
he showed me the plug and its small. but still i hate to drill a hole if i can avoid it.

i had that exact repair done...
the ding was along the crease in the panel about 6" back from the door. there <i>is/i> enough room to get the proper tools in there once the panel is off. good luck!

Had my Avant done in the same way...
just a small plastic plug only visible when the door is open. Also could never tell that a ding was ever present. PDR is way cheaper than the body shop :-)

I had a ding in the door along the contour line that required a drill...
The bracing on the door made it impossible to get in from the top window slit, which is where those guys normally like to work. So, he moved the rubber door seal out of the way, put a hole smaller than a dime in my door, popped the dent out in the matter of about 20 minutes, put a plug in it, and I'm the only one who knows about it.
Seriously, I'd suggest just letting him drill a hole. He won't hit anything if the window is up, it's safe. Besides, imagine if you got another dent. Would you want to have to take the inside panel off the door next time too? As much as I hate them, I'd rather have this "access port" to the door for next time I get one.
