OPINION POLL: Has owning sucha sweet car increased **** retentiveness (more than just a little)?
A *little* is inevitable, but I'm hoping the TT will make me happier, not more stressed out. Like I don't make people take their shoes off in my new house; life's too short to worry about that. IknowIknow, the TT isn't just a scratched CD that can easily be replaced, but I'm afraid I'll be living in extreme fear of bird-doody and parking lots and fingerprints and friends wanting to take it for a spin (even my honey). Eeeek!
Sooo...I know that stuff drives some of you cuh-ray-zee, but did it before (& how much more)?

Duke seemed to be improving, but Saturday was told TT HAD to be valet...
parked. Duke tipped large and could not look as it was driven away. Duke hated that. Did not feel like Duke would get over the valet parking issue anytime this decade.

I walk a lot further these days, keep a bath sheet to cover the seat when my 7 year old
gets in, no eating in the car and I vacuum it regularly, but when it comes to Valet parking or any area that questionable, I take the Volvo Mommy Wagon for no stress and no worry.

Short stories...
I used to really really really worry about this stuff, but I don't any longer. Not exactly sure why, but here are some of the best stories for this year (2000).
Car: Porsche 993 Carrera 4S
We were on Michigan Avenue in Chicago for Sunday brunch and the valet came up to me and immediately said, "hey, '97 C4S, great choice... blah blah blah" When the car came back, it was exactly as I'd given it to him and the radio station was on the same setting (major pet peeve, valets who change the radio station for the two seconds they'll be driving the car -- if they felt a need to change the radio station, they've borrowed my car too long). Usual tip.
Car: TT225 Q Coupe
Drove the car from Hartford Connecticut to Detroit Michigan overnight. Tough drive. Guy came up to me at an all-night McDonalds and goes 'how much longer you have to drive?' I said, 'awhile,' unsure of what the guy was going to do and knowing he saw me get out of the TT. He goes, 'I've got some energy bars and stuff in the back of my A8, you look like you need them more than I do.' Nicest guy and I probably made it to Detroit a bit earlier thanks to my Clif Bars. Nice A8, too. Complimented the guy on his car, gave him my card, and happily sped off in the TT.
Car: 550 Maranello
We showed up and dropped the car off (friend's car), everything is fine (certain Italian restaurant in the 800 block of Michigan Avenue). When we come back, the valet pulls up, puts it in first, turns off the ignition, and hops out of her car with a frappacino in his pocket. My friend looks at him, reaches into her purse and produces a $50, offers it to him and then stuffs it back into her purse at the last second. We get in, she puts down her driver's side window, leans out and says to him, 'No drinks in the Ferrari, please.' I bet that valet never went near a car with a beverage after feeling like he lost $50 that night.
I avoid valets when I can, but it's difficult...

Yep. Washed it after 4 days (just after the rain let up)...
...but so far no valet experiences. I did let my brother drive it somewhat hard...and I told my co-workers that they needed to be careful not to scuff the plastic low on the doors with their shoes.
Much more obsessive than I was with the BMW, which was pre-owned.

I find it's increased my friends' **** retentiveness more than mine.
They ask me "Are you sure it's ok if I eat in your car?", and say things like "Oh no, I don't want to sit in it, I've got dirt on my shoes."
Still, I washed my previous vehicle 3 times in 6 years. I've already tripled that with the TT.
Pat R -- Arlington, Virginia
