In a former life, my ex worked for Alfred Peet of Peets fame. (more)
We have some really good roasters in the Bay Area and lots of good coffee shops.
One local's slogan is "Friends don't let friends drink Starbucks".
Another is "the Doctor says drink lots of coffee, you're dead for a long time".
ChrisTTopher Lloyd

Peets is my lifes blood.
The first Peets in So Cal went up in Pasadena across from a Starbucks, and I'm always so happy to see the Peets jam packed, while the Starbucks is almost empty.
Maybe there is justice in the world of coffee.

My husband has had two Starburnt coffees in his entire life and he totally agrees with you.
We drink either Gevalia, Melitta or the Jakobs, Tschibo, or Eduscho coffee I stuff my suitcase with on our annual pilgrimage to .de. I can't be bothered grinding and roasting. I have more important things to do like driving my TT or hanging on the fourm.

Like coffee alot? YES! Home coffee roasting? Yeah, why not!?
Nice recommendation Brad, I too confess to being a quasi coffee snob, I'll take an espresso with a thick crema over a "regular" cup of bland joe anyday... or even the occasional triple-shot latte (bzzz). In fact I was able to pursuade the boss last year to purchase a small Saeco automatic espresso machine for the office (see link) from this place.
I'll have to look into the roaster and the green beans at the Coffee Bean Corral. Thanks for continued good info... no matter how OT.

You, strange for an Englishman? Never!...
Oh, you meant the coffee thing. Well, I enjoy tea quite often as well, so it's all good in my book.

Re: Peets is my lifes blood.
Peets is about as good as it gets, though I prefer my homeroasts. They take their roasting MUCH more seriously than a Starbucks, in my view. At Peets, coffee which is not sold within a week of roasting, is donated to charity. It keeps their beans fresh, and I like their style with regard to helping others.

Denny, some Mill Valley coffee news for you.
Sal Bonavita, who bought the original Berkeley Peet's stores from Alfred Peet before selling them to the founders of Starbucks and before Mr. Peet bought them back (are you following so far? There will be a quiz later.) has taken over the Coffee Roastery across from The Book Depot and Peets at the corner of Throckmorton and Lytton Square.
ChrisTTopher Lloyd
