Default OT: Porsche Boxster S info? Test Drives anyone?

this is not really for me, but for a friend. I was wondering if anyone played with a Porsche Boxster S, or a normal one. How does it handle etc.

Thanks
Thanks,

Default Driven 2 Boxster S's and about a dozen 2.5/2.7's

I'll start out with the negatives. The base models just don't have the power until way up in the RPM range. You can hear this when driving: the exhaust note will change around 4500RPM(intake runners changing paths), then the car pulls real nicely. Second: unless you spend big bucks on interior upgrades(aluminum trim, colored gauges, big leather pkg....), you just don't get the feeling of quality and uniqueness that you do in the TT. Third: extra money for sport package(better handling, 17/18" wheels) Fourth: they're everywhere-you will get lost in a crowd.

Positives:
-Base model: The car is very well balanced and real fun to carve down canyon roads in. Real slick soft top operation. Very good brakes.
-S model: Lots more low-end torque. This car is totally enjoyable to drive. The 3.2 motor is just a real sweetheart.

Conclusions: Given the choice between a base Boxster and a TTR, well, there would be no choice. Considering that a 2.7 Boxster with the options mentioned above would run about 5-8k more than a TTR, personally I couldn't see why anyone would buy the Porsche. Even if they were the same price, I'd still have to go with the TTR. Now, if the Boxster S and the TTR were the same money, then the nod would go to the Porsche, but it's simply not worth the extra 15k to me.
Jason Dale

Default Re: OT: Porsche Boxster S info? Test Drives anyone?

I had a deposit on a TTR 225 and decided that I had a fundamental problem with a sports car that weighs more than most midsized cars. So I ended up with the regular Boxster. Even without the S, it's still one hell of a drive. I can take corners even more quickly than with the E36 M3 I used to own. While I never got to drive the TTR, I can't imagine it to be comparable as a driver. You've gotta put up with the relatively (for its class) cheap looking interior and lack of low end torque though.

Default there is a drive in GA this weekend -- where there will be TT's, Boxster's Z3's and more

We are calling it the NORTH GA Mountain Drive -- I am sure that there will be plenty of places to compare the performance of the different cars.
Hope to see All of you there!
How Many TT drives will we have?
