Default P0221 Code Help

OK - so I'm a newbie and not exactly the most technical person but fairly capable with a tool box and not afraid to try and fix something. My 2005 Audi TT Quattro was doing well until I started her up to drive home from work and she threw a few lights on the dash. The EPC light, the CEL, and the Triangle with circle arrow and exclamtion mark - ESP ?? - light. Took it to the local parts store and they scanned it for codes - P0221 showed up. The clerk said I needed a new throttle body - $250 and up - so I limped her home and started trying to research how to fix. Here's where I'm at - dislocated battery, removed and cleaned throttle body (did not take apart the sensor) and reinstalled, hooked up battery, turned ignition to "ON" and let it set for about 4 minutes - then turned off. Then started her up - no lights on dash - idles awful, erratic revs, almost sounds like its trying to backfire. Turned her off. Didn't want to cause further damage. Any suggestions? And Thank you in advance for your help!

MAF (mass airflow sensor)? Knock on wood I haven't had a problem with the MAF but I see it mentioned here frequently. I would definitely try and clean that sensor and look carefully for cracked or missing vacuum lines around the throttle body. Any auto parts store will have MAF cleaner in a spray bottle for a few dollars.

On the theme of this topic, can someone recommend me a good ODB2 plug-in analyzer with a mobile appnfor an O5 TT? Ioticed that the LCD (?) readout on the steering wheel on 05 TT convertible I was looking at also was missing character pieces, pixels? Or whatever they are called... And I'd like to know if something like that would appear in the diagnostic code check available via the ODB2 port... Thanks
