Default Paging Herr Doktor Schwing........

Do you know what size the boost piping is from the turbo outlet to the hard pipe on top of the engine?

TIA.

Default It's a step up adapter...>

That joins the turbo out to that pipe...I just measured the turbo flange on the K04 I have sitting under my desk and that is 2.25 inches. Dunno on the pipe, but that's relatively easy to pull and measure...

Looks pretty big here:

Here's a K04-22

I just had that hose replaced and it was $249.00 at the stealer and they charged me 300 bucks to put it on :-( Ever since they did put it on there is a boost leak which I can't find. I checked all the connections of all the hoses but can not find the damn boost leak.

What is that golden valve/solonoid looking thing on the turbo? Could it be that they pulled off a hose or damaged that thing while trying to put that new hose on?

I just want my car to run right again without any major ssssshishing sounds after hitting 3800 rpm.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Tom in INdy

Default Tom.....Replacing that hose...>

Is pretty simple. Sounds like they hosed you good on that. If the leak was after they did the install, I'd insist they correct the problem. That gold thing is the wastegate...They shouldn't have had to get anywhere near that to do the hose job. I sell a pressure tester for sluething out leaks if you want to give it a go yourself...Could be something as simple as a DV leaking though..

Modshack Pressure tester

Default Hey Tom! Sniffing out vacuum leaks is a chore.

We found this torn hose over the weekend:

Even after a quick visual inspection we missed this - you really have to hunt them down.

Default Re: Hey Tom! Sniffing out vacuum leaks is a chore.

Which hose is this? Might as well check that one for a leak. I have checked all the major hoses like the upper Intercooler hoses and the smaller lower hoses and loosened and then tightened them. It still has a boost leak.
I even tried a couple of different DV's since the dealer was convinced that it was the DV's fault. Well, after trying a new stock unit, a Hyperboost and a Forge DVR they all did the same thing so I don't think it's the DV's fault.

The only thing I haven't done yet is pull the hose off that they have changed and inspect it for flaws. It's a brand new hose so I don't think it would be defective but maybe they didn't seat the hose properly and it is leaking from it in some way? Heck, I don't know.
Maybe the Wastegate is toast?

I need a sure way of testing this without guessing myself to death.

Thanks for your help.

Hey Steve,

A tester that would help track down boost leaks would be a heavens sent. Or a Steve's sent.
Heck I take it whatever it costs.
I got hosed so much by the dealer that a few more bucks wont matter.
The dealer also tried to tell me that it is a bad DV but I have tried 3 different ones. A brand new Bosch stock unit, a piston Hyperboost unit and a brand new Forge DVR and all of them do the same thing. It is still leaking boost above 3800 rpm. Not as bad as when the Hose totally blew off but bad enough where there is hardly any accelleration after you hear the air leaking. Heck a Chevy cavalier could beat me running on 3 cylinders. Very frustrating.

I already took it back to the dealer for the same problem twice and told them to pressure test the system. All they do is hook it to their electronic fault finder and it tells them it is shows an overboost fault and a possible DV problem. They blame it on my car being modified.
When the saw the **** and the Boost Machine and the TTDA that's all the needed to tell me that all those things are throwing off my balance and they couldn't really fix it until I return everything to stock. Those guys are total idiots.

Anyway, can you E-Mail me with more detailed information on the Pressure tester that you sell?
The link above doesn't seem to be correct? or maybe I didn't read the entire thread....
My E-Mail address at home is tsmith1222@sbcglobal.net
Thank you Steve as always for your help!
Wish you were closer I would drive my car over and have you take a look and pay you instead of the stealer. ;-)

Are you coming to the TT Midwest?

Default It's the hose connected to the passenger side of the intake manifold.

Here's another view - the middle hose is the one that connects to the intake.

Default Here are the sizes of the inside diameter of the hose....

First of all I want to apologize for hijacking your thread. It's just that my boost leak has been going on for weeks now and I can't find it and the dealer is useless.

Anyway, I have the old hose that the dealer gave me and the inside diameter of the hose that comes off the Turbo side is just under 2 1/4 inches or to be more precise 5 1/2 centimeters
(55 millimeters). The top side of the hose going into the metal tube is Just a millimeter over 2 3/4 inches or 7 centimeters (70 millimeters) It's a custom formed and custom size hose which is a dealer only item and I got hosed buying it from the dealer for about $249.00 bucks which is rediculous for less than
8 inches of hose. Then the charged me 2 1/2 hours to replace the hose and ever since they replaced the hose I am having a boost leak which I can't determine where the heck it is.
As you can see I got hosed.

Hope that helps. Have a great day!

Tom in Indy
