Default Power steering system

Local Audi dealer offers a "BG" flush service for the power steering system. This is a two-step process that runs detergents through the system and then replaces with fresh fluid. $109

I have a pretty bad whine, which I think is the pump (praying its not the rack). I am not expecting the flush to eliminate the noise, and I intend to replace the pump. I just want to make sure that I don't run contaminated fluid through a new pump. I've checked the fluid level and it is good, but the fluid looks bad (dirty).

So, does anyone have any experience with PS system flushes like this? Any concern with using such a detergent in a vehicle with 130k+ miles? (guess I'm afraid that it could somehow accelerate the failure of old seals)

Default I would skip that....>

You're in the Rack Failure window. A flush like that could finish it off...

BTW, Pumps can run for hundreds of miles with no fluid...Ask me how I know!

Default pressue would be the only thing i would think that could become an issue>>>

if the flushing unit develops too much pressure any borderline hoses or fittings could become problems. This might also not show right away.....

If you are replacing the pump, why go through this???

Default Thanks guys, as I expected. What do you think about plan B?

I want to purge all of the old fluid.

I thought about disconnecting the return line and place the end in a bucket. Having a friend start the car (and ready to turn it off), I would pour fluid into the reservoir until fresh fluid starts to pour into the bucket.
