Problem: Tiptronic won't shift higher than 3rd gear
My friend has a 2003 Audi TT 1.8T (180hp) FWD with 6spd Tiptronic transmission (not your every day combination, TT with Tiptronic). The car has about 40k miles. Now there's something weird going on with the transmission. It won't shift higher than a 3rd gear regardless whether you use D or S mode or manual shifting from the paddle shifters. We did a full scan with my VAG-COM, but no fault codes whatsoever.
Any ideas what could be the issue? Is the Tiptronic transmission by the way the same with transverse and longitudinal engine setup?
Thanks in advance!

I don't know, but...>>>
Road & Track's report on their Audi A3 w/DSG mentions the need to change transmission fluid at regular intervals. So, if the car has 40K mileage, one question might be was the transmission fluid serviced properly?
For my wife's RAV 4 with an automatic the transmission fluid was changed every 15K.
If your friend's car is still on warranty or a CPO, then it should go to the dealer.
If not, and independent shop that does Audi and knows tiptronic would be where to go.
