problem on the way to work...it could happen to you...
While driving to work this morning car went into hard limp mode with EPC, check engine and traction control lights ON. I pulled over and found the car idling very rough. This has never happened before and I was expecting the worse. My CarPC has been disabled for a while (waiting for warmer weather to connect it back) but lucky for me I had my notebook home for the weekend and was bringing it back to the office so I was able to use that to diagnose the car.
Found some errors relating to Throttle Body (No Max signal, no Min signal, no adaptation), none of which could be reset via VAG-Com. I looked at block 60 and found 90% in the first monitoring block and 0% in the second. SO something was definitely going on with the Throttle Body. I figured my best bet would be to try to pull the battery cable and hope that this would reset the error and give me enough time to get to work (5 min away). I popped the hood and dove in. Thankfully my instincts told me to wiggle the connections to throttle body first (after all it worked when my cam sensor went and allowed me enough time to get to the dealer). Low and behold...the connector came right off. Remembering that the car was at the dealer for some work which required the manifold to be pulled off the engine, I realized that the tech probably didn't press in the connector all the way. At this point I'm ready to explore my vocabulary with all previously said statements referencing Audi Techs, but I was happy enough to see this wasn't going to turn into an expensive repair and that calmed me down. Close the hood, get back into the car and try to reset the codes. Viola - codes (except adaptation) are reset. Go to block 60, run the adaptation....PROBLEM. WTF? Turns out my battery dropped below 11V while I was figuring this whole thing out. SO I start the car...let it idle (rough, very rough), charge up the battery...AND...adaptation successful and I'm on my way to work.
As I've said many times before...VAG tool is a MUST! Saved me lots of headaches and money.

Optima redtop...less than a year old. I've got something draining it though, thats why I
disconnected my CarPC, but I have a feeling its not 100% disconnected. If only it was warm enough to look at. There is enough voltage to start the car and I disconnect the battery when I don't drive the car for more than a few days. I'll hold off til spring and re-do CarPC's power supply which will hopefully cure the drain.
