Default Purchasing a chip

I want to put an APR chip into my 2001 stock TT however I have never done anything like this before. So what I want to know is if there is anything else I have to do to the engine like upgrade the intake, exhaust, or internals before installing the chip. Also they speak of some-odd 40 hp gain is that a realistic figure?

http://www.goapr.com/Audi/products/ecu_upgrade_tt.html</a

Great. You don't need to do anything else and 40 hp is about right

Default No you don't NEED to, and yes the claims are realistic, different car after a chip

I would upgrade the exhaust and intake afterwards. No reason to do internals with our engines, unless you are going Stage 3 or above, but most kits provide the items needed.

I find the core 3 upgrades are: (what I use)
Chip (APR), exhaust (APR), intake (Modshack VTDA)

Afterwards follow with:
Modshack Stage III (Modshack), Brakes (AP Racing), FMIC (T-Carbon)

Enjoy!

Default Everything else is additive. Chip, solo, is good.....

Add a VTDA and Borla, and your 180 (or mine at least) is competitive on track and on the Dragon!

Default APR is a good choice, No other changes needed, but...>

You may find it will reveal some other weaknesses that need to be upgraded. Common are the Diverter valve, and potentially the MAF if it's not fairly fresh.

Beyond that, Intake (VTDA of course!) and exhaust mods will make it sing....:-)

Default you just missed an Octoberfest sale >>

If you can wait until the end of the year for the Christmas sale, you can save. It's usually buy one program and get another one free....or...buy 2 programs and get the whole works for free-that's what I did-

Default Where is the sale? At a meet or online?

I too need (it's more of a need than want) to chip my 2001 TTQC and am looking towards APR over the other options as it seems to be the favorite choice, and most stable?

Already have VTDA and new DV (old stock bosch was honking at me once I installed the VTDA...see how slippery the slope gets?), rear sway on backorder. I plan to pick up the 42DD downpipe and maybe the Blueflame exhaust in the spring. At the same time I do the chip, though, I'll pick up a set of Samco hoses to install beforehand "just in case". I hear the stock hose(s) collapse under higher boost?

Speaking of, can anyone explain what happens when the hose collapses? E.g., what would I experience? Would it be Very Very Bad (tm) for the engine? Would I spit fire and smoke and run for my life? Or would I just loose lots of boost and run really rich? Does the hose uncollapse itself once I let off the throttle? Probably a great topic for its own post.

I'm dying to hear your results and opinion, uberstranger!
