Question about service interval
the car has about 14.5k miles on it and the service light/indicator just came on. The car is going to the dealer tomorrow....do I have them do the 20k service or what? They said that they would do the 20k since a certain amt of time must have elapsed since the last service..
Any ideas? Thanks so much.

it depends ...
doesn't everything? :-)
why is the car going to the dealer tomorrow? for some reason other than normal service?
if you had a 10K service done previously or at least an oil change at around 10,000, then you don't need to do anything now except another oil change (and have them reset the service indicator, which shouldn't normally be set to go off now).
however, if you don't want to wait or it won't be convenient to come back for the 20K whenever you expect the car to hit 20K, then you could have them do it "early". but, if you don't have a good reason for it, I wouldn't do the 20K service at 14K; why not wait 'til 20K like "it's supposed to be"? the main deal with the 20K is the Haldex oil/filter replacement, which is required at 20K intervals; if you do it now, then you'll want to shoot for around 35K for the "40K" service, which is harder to remember than "40K", right? :-)

why? just for the heck of it?
if it's time to change the oil, then by all means, go ahead and have it changed.
but, I don't see any reason to do the 20K service now, unless there's some reason you won't be able to do it when 20K rolls around. you'll probably want to change the oil again around 20K, so you can have 'em do the 20K servbice then.
if you haven't had them do the "5K" or "10K" services yet, i suppose you could ask for one of them, but there isn't much point - they don't actually DO anything of sigificance beyond changing the oil anyway (except at the 5K when the rotate the wheels).
