question regarding maximum rim and wheel width for oem application
Hi All,
I'm sure that this question has been talked about quite a bit, but I thought I would raise the issue again (so, I won't have to search through numerous posts - I already looked through a bunch to no avail).
I have a 2001 FWD Roadster and am looking at 18" aftermarket rims. I would like to know how wide I can safely go on the rims and the wheels before I have to worry about tire/rim/rub damage (eg, 18X8, 18X8.5 and 235, 245, etc?).
Also, would the addition of wheel spacers alleviate the problem with tire/rim rub damage?
Thanks in advance!

to answer a question with a question>>>
what wheel/offset are you dealing with? Makes a difference. You can go as wide as 265's in the back, but you need to choose your offset wisely...for the fronts, you can go 245's...with the correct offset and rim width....
I would ask tho, why? From a performance perspective, the TT gains nothing with wide rubber.....225's are wide enough all the way around from a handling perspective....not to mention wear and tear...
If its looks you are after...seems to be a lot of work and $$$ for something you only really notice from the front or back...IMO

good question!
As my car is FWD, my "big plan" is to have as much tread width allowed for the front tires. Although I can do a staggered fitment for the rears, it wouldn't add extra function for my vehicle - just looks (which is also nice).
I should rephrase my question to "how wide can I go in the fronts?" and "What offset would I need to utilize with a larger tire?" (eg, 245)
OEM Specs:
Structure: Cast Aluminum Alloy
Size: 17x7.5"
Bolt Pattern: 5x100
Offset: 32mm
Hub-bore: 57.1mm
Finish: Painted Silver
