Questions from future owner...
Hey all,
I just found this site but now FAQ so I apologize in advance if I'm asking anything that's frowned upon.
okay, i'm planning on buying the 180 quattro in late august/early september. i just recently moved up here to stamford, ct and 1.) i've never bought a car before & 2.) i don't know the reputations of the dealers up here. Any NYC metro area folks have any hints or suggestions for me on that front?
also, i know this forum doesn't exactly represent an unbiased sample however i'm gonna ask it anyway-->what do folks think of their tt's? are there any 'known issues' to be aware of before buying? i've been looking at this thing for about 3 months now so i don't need any rah-rah coaxing...would just like to be well informed when i finally plunk down all those clams. maintennece is a concern of mine (i'm lucky that i know where the gas tank is) cuz i'm a total moron when it comes to tools and cars (i won't even think of attempting some of the mods i've been reading about on this forum ). oh, wait, there is one exception to that-->
should i get that bose system that comes with or should i skip it and get one installed after i get it? my brother tells me i shouldn't do a custom install for a year or two because of warranty issues regarding the electrical system? thoughts? i don't really need a thumper of a system (i haven't had a radio in 10 years in my car) but i'd like something reasonably decent.
as an offering to anyone that made it this far....here's a link to a 1024x768 wallpaper i made from some images i found out on the audi site.

Welcome, I'm next door in Darien. We have a large group
in the NY/NJ/CT area.
I'll let others answer the stereo, etc. questions.
My view of local dealers is to go up to Danbury Audi. Greenwich and Fairfield dealerships are not on the top of my hit parade...others may have differing opinions.
A friend of mine just got $2,000 off a 2001 225 Roadster at Danbury. Service has been great so far, free loaner with scheduled service, they've fixed any little thing I asked them to, etc.
Hope to see you at some future events.

Re: Bose
Byelii,
The Bose will certainly pass your criteria of
"reasonably decent", but it is also certainly
not worth the money you are spending for it, other
than to have something pre-installed from day 1
with an Audi warranty. That's been my view (and I
did get the Bose and am quite satisfied) and
the Forum's general consensus. The decision then
is on convenience with a reasonable performance
vs. a little more work but more performance for
the price.
Other known issues: can you say DV? But really,
that's not a big problem and there is nothing
your dealer can do about it. If yours go bad, you
simply buy an aftermarket valve and you're on your
way.
You've seen the FAQ item on what to do when
picking up your new TT, right?
Good luck!

Issues that may concern you.....
1) you'll find sticky fingermarks all over the car all the time, and
2) be prepared to meet LOTS of strangers every day asking about the car.
LOL :-)

scrap the oem sound system and get a custom install...
the sound will be significantly better and the chances of any electrical problems are close to zero with a good installer (so there should be no warranty issues).
good luck!

Too funny
Depends where on Hope Street...doesn't matter anyway. We are so close, it's silly. If you go up Camp from Hope Street and turn left on 106/Hoyt Street, I'm right there....just over the Stamford border. Anytime you want to stop by and take my car for a ride or take a look, just let me know. Are you working in Stamford or NYC?
