Default Quick Check in with people using OTC 4324 Engine Support Bar

2000 ATC FWD coupe coming on 59800 miles - timing belt job in order in the next couple of months. Got the Stinger Engine Support Bar and would like to confirm a few details with people who use those on their TTs.

Is this the correct/best place to rest the foot of the bar? With all the welds there this seemes like the strongest point.

<img src="http://130.74.178.25:85/AW/OTC/01.jpg">

The bar has a certain degree freedom in rotation front to back and I understand the need for the bar to be able to pivot since the motor bay is sloped. Am I correct in assuming that once loaded the bar will become stable - would be awful to have the whole setup to pivot forward under load?

<img src="http://130.74.178.25:85/AW/OTC/02.jpg">

And the last one. Do we wrap the included chains around the engine as instructions suggest or do we just use the special holes on the engine - they line up with the bar hook quite nicely?

<img src="http://130.74.178.25:85/AW/OTC/03.jpg">

Thank you in advance.

Default That's where I placed mine.

I also was concerned about it pivoting and tightened the bolts that hold the bar to the legs nice and tight to prevent it from rotating. And I just put a large bolt through the chain and the hole under your engine code and used that as the lift point.

A-ha, great idea, thanks Trent. I was thinking more on the 'i am going to have to get a smaller chain' lines since the included one will not fit through the holes. But I like the 'bold through the chain' method much better.

Default Supports the engine when you remove an engine mount

Especially handy if you are doing a timing belt job and have a lift. That way I can raise or lower the car without having to worry about supporting the engine from below.

Default Ahh, that makes a lot of sense, but if you want to switch from working underneath to working from

the top, do you have to then find some way to support the engine from underneath and then remove this bar?

Default Yes, I worked around the bar when I could but since I had the mount off for weeks

I did find times where it was easier to place a jack underneath and remove the bar completely. But for the most part I kept it in place.

Default I have one of these too

Although I haven't had a chance to use it on the TT yet. I'll be interested to see all the responses, since I'll be doing this in a week or two.

Default That'll work fine but..>>

I think the whole rig has a little more side to side support and security mounted like:

Default Oops, you're right. THIS is how I used mine

I guess I didn't look at the original pictures close enough. You have to have the legs all the way out to the end to fit but it does give it nice stability.

Trent

(Jeez, now that I relook at the first pics, how did I not see that)
