I recently got a new clutch installed due to it slipping however its been about 3 or 4 months ago since the new clutch and just now I am getting a rattling noise from the clutch. It will begin to rattle whenever I let go of the clutch but once I push the clutch the rattling goes away. Any ideas as to why? It only seems to happen every so often but I feel like its slowly becoming more often.

Transmission has to come back out to troubleshoot. Likely a bad throwout bearing/slave cylinder. But, the clutch plate could have a loose spring or rivet. Hopefully you or whoever installed it used OEM parts. Cheap, Aftermarket junk is, well, junk.

You might also look at any loose exhaust heat shields. I could be that when you let the clutch out, it's causing enough vibration to rattle the heat shield.

Bringing up an old thread, OP. Did you ever get it sorted out and find the culprit? I am having the exact same issue you explained on my 09 s5 4.2.
