Relay Wiring - Jeff Bipes! Question for ya

Okay, I was hoping you could help me out.

I'm following your instructions for the aux connector and I'm stuck..

What wires do I connect to the 12v relay? I have 3 wires from the cd changer, 3 from the headunit, and 3 from the headphone jack.

Do you have a diagram of the relay setup?

And where do I attach the toggle switch to these mess of wires?

Thanks so much. I owe ya!

what diagram are you following?

Re: what diagram are you following?

Yeah, that one.

Thanks for responding.

I have no clue how to wire a relay, but I have all the peices here, except for a resistor thing.

NOTE: I'm not looking to power my ipod/mp3 player, just send the signal to the head unit

Try this realy wiring from the original post on this

The 10K resistors are not needed.

I can't teach you electronics here, but check this page.

Hmm. I idon't know what to look for.

I have the relay in my hand. 8 little "prodes" to attach my wires to.

They are numbered like this:

1 2
+ +

3 4
+ +

5 6
+ +

I just don't know where each wire goes

Well, that description is nearly impossible to dechiper. What relay model/mfg is it?

Re: Well, that description is nearly impossible to dechiper. What relay model/mfg is it?

Radio shack Plug in Relay model 275-218 DPDT
12 VDC

the same one in the picture you have online/

JustJeff 07-14-2004 11:49 AM

Well, mine isn't exactly the same. there is a schematic then on the cover of this realy, match it to

this...

<img src="http://tychl.txf.com/S4-EMPEG.jpg">

BTW- That Rat-Shack relay is over-kill.

C= common- left and right going to the H/U

NC= Normally closed= left and right wires in the the relay "off" position.

NO= normally Open = left and right wires to the Aux input.

Common all copper stranded wires together.

Relay coil.
one side goes to ground.
other side goes to switched +!2V through a switch.
