Default Replacement Key/Fob/Remote

I've searched and there seems to be varied opinions on what to do to replace the key. I bought a used '01 TT and the dealer only had 1 key. I checked and it doesn't appear that my TT has the immobilizer. Does that mean I can buy one the keys off of ebay, get it cut and do the programming myself since I don't need to have the transponder/chip-thingy match the ignition switch?

Default a couple of points>>>

you should probably just go to the dealer and buy a new key and have them code it. In case the car ever needs to go back, and requires a service with all of the keys..then it is best to get it from the source...IMO
