Default Replacing timing belt, water pump & ?????

I am going to replace the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, plugs & coil-pacs on my 2001 225hp quattro. From what I have read on this forum it is time, I have 65000miles on it now, no trouble yet, but I'd like it to stay that way.. I sure could use advice on what kit to buy, ECS or Diesel Geek. And I want to upgrade the coil-packs, Also, If anyone has any advice on what else to replace while I'm tron apart please let me know,,, Thanks

As far as the timing belt kit, I used the ECS Tuning ultimate kit. Everything is included and installation took about 4 hrs.

ECS sells the coil packs too howerver, Audi/VW has an TSB on this and should replace them free if your car is on the list. I think the 2001 TTs were.

I have pics on the ol' fotki site on the installation. Even thou my car is a 180, it should be very close.

Hope this helps.

Ditto here, and the ECS water pump has a metal impeller.. vs plastic stock impeller.

Default Are you doing it yourself? I had Sport Haus do mine last week at 63K...

had some other stuff done (coolant reservoir replaced as well as it was leaking) and cost around $980 (with the 15% discount they give you if you are an Audi Club member). Lithia quoted me $1600 for timing belt alone, so I'm not going back there!

Yes I was going to do this myself, I have the help of a retired master mechanic who also used to drive for both Porsche and then Ferrari in Europe way back when. Thanks for the tip about the thermostat, Maybe we should let ECS know about this problem so won't send out defective parts

Default ECS Timing Belt Kit Update>>>

I called ECS, talked to Jason, and mentioned the overheating problem some have been having with their kit, he had me substitute the thermostat that comes in the kit with a OE one, just had to request it in the comments on my order.
He said they were very interested to hear about any problems customers have had. He was wondering if it was the different climates the thermastat's were being installed in or what.
Anyway the guys at ECS seem like a great bunch who care about keeping their customers happy,, getting rare these days
