Default RNS-E in the TT - dual DIN is cool

<center><img src="http://www.kufatec.de/shop/images/product_images/popup_images/1042_1.jpg"></center><p>
There is a package at:
http://www.satnavsystems.com/shopexd.asp?id=305&amp;bc=no
but at $3k it is too much. Other options?

Yes, there is:
http://www.kufatec.de/shop/index.php/cat/c46_TT---8N.html
for $640 you get a pretty good special Bracket for the Audi RNS-E. I bet if someone does a group buy a far better price is possible.

You then need the GPS antenna, the radio antenna adapter, and the wiring to get the job done plug and play style. Also from kufatec, I got them for $125 at:
http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_info.php/info/p794_RNS-E-Bundle--RNS-E-Adapter---antenna-adapter---Unlock-key.html

But, you can also hunt down an RNS-E on ebay which may have these items, minus the $640 bracket, for $1k or less.

Aha, so the job can be done for $1500 or so.

I got these parts ordered. I also got a RCA composite adapter so that I can plug nearly any audio/video source from:
http://www.carnavi-more.de/product_info.php?cPath=35_84&amp;products_id=166&a mp;os
But on ebay there are other options, some are cheaper.

The bluetooth kit I want to get is from Audi, and it ain't cheap. But I will hold off until I hear about the kit from:
http://yhst-75236106836826.stores.yahoo.net/aublkitbeon.html

When the job is done I will post a write up with some pictures and videos. I like how it already looks, I know some do not. Let the pictures confirm/change these impressions.

I do not see this happening until June given my current schedule.

If you want to do this project on your own before then, feel free to e-mail me because there are some gotchas I did not write about yet. I spent a lot of time researching this, and I bet there will be more gotchas to come.

regards

We have the RNS-E in our Avant - it's OK - but i'd go aftermarket unless you are hell bent on OEM

Default I hope the 'chrome facing for climate control' is actually an aluminum-look...

Otherwise, I think that'll be very strange looking.

Personally, I cannot see paying that much money just to maintain a 'stock look', while sacrificing the joy of satellite radio, integrated iPod control, and the TT's flip cover, but that may just be me.

It's an interesting 'solution', and I'll reserve final judgment until I see it in the flesh.

Nice work tracking down those parts, though.

The trim is chrome, as per the site. But there is a picture of the Bracket without any trim. If so, I will just mount that without the chrome.

There is an RNS-E iPod kit.
SatNav is a built in option.

RNS-E works with the stock Bose system as well as the CD changer. The DIS(driver info system) integration is a plus.

I have seen plenty of good reviews and projects at http://www.navplus.us/ - a site for RNS-E, have a look at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RNS-E
for full info on the capabilities.

Yes, I will miss the TT's flip cover, but so far I leave it off most of the time.

Can June come fast enough...

And done: http://koshok.net/TT/rnse.mp4

Bracket: https://tt8n.de/

Wiring kit: https://www.kufatec.com/en/car-hifi/...te-kit-37833-1

Still a few things to iron out, but it fits and works.
