Sent my Passport 8500 in for service a few weeks ago -- just came back today.
Had been getting the "Service Required" message randomly for a few years. Then about a month ago I was getting some false laser alarms. I had had enough, so I finally shipped it off to Escort for a tune-up.
Got it back today. The repair ticket stated that they "Changed the antenna" and "Laser circuit modified to eliminate laser falsing." Not only that, but they threw in a new power cord (not that I use it--hard wired), new mount, four new suction cups, PLUS they replaced the outside shell! It's like a brand new unit. My old one was all scratched and banged up from dropping it.
Not too bad for $75 I guess. Let the speeding resume!

its nice that they swapped out the outer shell as well...
that's a nice attention to detail.
i had that happen to me once, when i had my powerbook in for repair, they replaced practically everything. i suppose it was cheaper to do it that way that find out what was causing problems on the circuit board.

that's awesome to know...
mine just started saying Service Required, but I didn't have a clue what needed to be done and haven't had time to contact them. $75 is definitely cool for pretty much a new unit.

Yeah I have no idea what triggers it, but mine has been randomly doing it for a few years
Cycling the power usually clears that message. But still, I feel better knowing whatever it is has been fixed...

yeah, everytime it flashes, I just turn it off and turn it back on and it goes away for a few weeks.
After I get my current maintenance issues taken care of (DV and hazard relay) I'm going to go ahead and ship it out to them.

Well aware, had to send mine in for service when I first got mine>
had 'false alarms' and the speaker was starting to go
they replaced the speaker and re-soldered some connections
has been a rock since!
they also matched my over-night shipping method so i had little time without it (i was going on a long trip and needed it back ASAP)
