Default Service help please!

I have my car at local Audi dealer for timing belt and water pump changeplus rollers, tensioner, antifreeze(YBH Audi).

Service dept. just called and said they have no record of the waterpump being an updated part and as far as they know the impeller is still plastic. Is there a special part number I need to request, or what's the deal? I asked this a few days ago but didn't get a response.

Also, they told me I need to have my 40k maintenance done. for an additional $600. (Car actually has 49k on it, and bought it a year ago with 35k). 40k service includes Haldex oil & filter, plugs, air filter, cabin filter, brake fluid. I don't have any service history on the car, and Audi says previous owner's last scheduled maintenance was at 27k.

I assume it's a good idea to at least have the brake and haldex changed - is changing the plugs or cabin filter a bear to do by yourself?

Please help me out. I told her I'd give her a call back ASAP.

Default My understanding is that the Audi part is plastic and after-market replacements are metal.

this is why nearly everyone goes to a parts supplier to get the kits.

Plugs aren't that bad, IMO. Just need a plug socket and extension (and hex key to get coil packs off

Default $600 is a lot for what needs to be done. (That's the going rate at the dealer, though.)

The only thing I would have them do is change the brake fluid. If you can buy or borrow a Haldex filter wrench, you can do the other things yourself and save yourself $500. Or find a decent independent shop that works on Audis or VWs and have them do it for half that.

Default So I should order a part like this:

and not have them replace the waterpump with another OEM plastic part?

I'd say so. The filters can be bought at Autozone or similar and done yourself.

Default Is the car already apart? If so, they need a new WP now - you don't want them to finish, and then

change the WP later, as it takes all the labor of at TB change to get there. Also, I doubt an Audi shop will use non-Audi parts - I know mine won't. That's why many people either DIY or use an independant shops.

Using the OEM WP won't be the end of the world. It lasted through one TB change, it should go through another. If you have the option, though, I would get a metal impeller version in there.

Default Springfield, just outside Philly, but the car is at the YBH Dealership right now

I'll call them and tell them to hold off on everything.

Default No, they haven't started yet.

Waiting for a call back from me. No, I doubt they would install a non OEM part.

I'll have to try to find an independent VW/Audi shop around here.
