Service Message
I just bought a 2001 TT and when I start the car now, I get a service message. Can VAG-COM tell me what service it needs or can I just reset the message?

did you get it serviced after buying it?
you probably should...just so you know when you've done it (and so you when your next service should be)...and then reset the message.

Re: did you get it serviced after buying it?
yes. can it tell me if i need an oil change or something else? it's not up to the timing belt yet. It's a little over the 20k service for the haldex fluid.

Re: Sounds like u got good records with it
wait, i think i'm being misunderstood. i have no records of the TT at all. I bought it from a used car dealership and they have no idea of its service history.
it's a 2001 and has 42k miles. i don't know if I should just get the oil changed or if I should play it safe and get the haldex service that's required at every 20k miles. but if it did, i would be wasting my money.
i was asking if VAG-COM can tell me why the service message comes up. Can it tell me if it's for an oil change that's due or if it's for the haldex fluid change?

That service message comes up every 10,000 miles, regardless of which service is due.
It doesn't distinguish between any of the scheduled services, but since the oil change is due every 10K miles, that's what it is based on. The service warning starts counting up from the last time it was reset and will display "Service due in X miles" (x = number of miles until 10,000) starting at 2500 IIRC. Once the car reaches 10,000 miles since the last reset, it will disply "SERVICE!"
Instructions to reset it yourself are in the owner's manual. It is some combination of holding down the dash buttons and turning on the ignition.
