Shifter is very notchy at times, esp 1-2...is it bad to

continue to drive like this? Next service is in 8k miles. I think I have the problem that is documented in the TT FAQ. Why is it smoother other times too?
I also noticed in the monring, the first 1-2 shift will actually GRIND! arg. Also, when I shift with more pressure to the right, it will be smooth, but some days, if I shift with more direction towards 4th gear, then the 1-2 shift will be sooth...anyone else notice this?

I do, Audi will not do anything for you.. tried to have it fixed last week

try some redline tranny fluid, if you search you will find the weight for our cars. I hear that helps.

ugh, that stinks...have you shown your dealer the FAQ write up by any chance?

I have shown them something Jeff the electronics God showed me, but that is it

I brought mine in for what was notchiness too. My tech went for a drive with me.. he said

unless it grinds.. as in the teeths of the gears jams and makes jittering noises. There's not much Audi will let them do. He said this is just the way Quattro transmissions are. I'm still kind of suspicious. But the tech was a really nice guy & talked to me about racing & modding his car. He also said you're shifting into 2nd about 3k right?

Well... sometimes I do sometimes i don't ;-p

Can someone re-post the article regarding this problem?

Something about certain VIN# that had the really "notchy" tranny and why they're so bad. Don't remember who posted it.

I think it's something about 1-2 shifts...

My 1997 Jeep Wrangler also had a problem with 1-2 shifts when cold, as do Jeep Wranglers up to and including 2002.

For whatever reason, I think that when cold the 1-2 shift is just hard on synchros; no excuses but it seems a bit strange that it would be a problem across transmission models across vehicle models...

There is a TSB on this issue your tech needs to read....I thought my TT was a bit 'notchy'...

when I first picked it up...head of Audi service said a TSB had been issued...took car and 20 minutes later came back and basically said 'that should do it..' and yep that did it...NO notchy feeling at all. So you ask what did he do?? Adjust the cable linkage from shifter to tranny...simple and quick...

Don't happen to have that TSB available do you?
