I'm going to connect the light of the boost gauge to the output of the dash light dimmer switch.

Default No, not necessary. just keep the lights off when you are doing the splicing.
Where are you splicing into the line?

the blue-gray wire comming out of the dimmer, that's correct??? If not correct me please...
