A Shutterfly Calendar Review
I was curious about the calendars offered by Shutterfly.com - the supplier-to-be for the upcoming TT calendar - I hadn't heard of this option before, but decided to try it out. Plus, it gave me an excuse to make myself a calendar from this year's collection of boating pictures...
I ordered mine on Tuesday (just a single calendar) and got it today (Thursday) via USPS Priority mail. It is very nice - printed on thick cardstock - spiral bound with sturdy vinyl - and the printing is very good. The calendar pages are 8.5" x 11", and the image area is about 7" x 9.5", with a surrounding white border. Most of my input images were 2288x1712 or just slightly under, and the results are excellent. (I've been using an Olympus D-40 4MP digicam.) Shutterfly recommends a minimum resolution of 1600x1200, and this is probably acceptable, but in my experience of printing 8x10 sized prints, more is better, if possible.
For the cover, I Photoshopped a title onto my cover picture. They let you put two lines of title text onto the cover underneath the cover picture, so I used that for a subtitle. It came out quite nice. Hopefully in the future, they might support more options for adding text and using different fonts.
Here's a smaller res copy of my calendar cover photo:

Bottom line: it looks great, and I'd expect the TT calendar to look great, too.

For those who are interested, Shutterfly also has options to create greeting cards (5"x7"), with or without seasonal front borders and with or without text on the inside. The cost for under 10 cards is somewhat high (currently $2.49/each) but if you get 10 or 20, there are price steps that get the price down under $2. One nice thing: you can put different images and individualized text on each card, but they all still count toward the same total, so you can make yourself a variety of different card images without having to buy a lot of each one to keep the price reasonable. You can also put images onto smaller (3.5"x5") notecards.
