Silly Question after 20K maintenence...
I took my car in last Wednesday for a DV replacement and the 20K service. I supplied my own Mobil 1 oil...Last time I took it there (5 months ago), they used only 4 quarts of oil, so I had 1 left over. This time, I bought only 3 quarts because of the 1 extra. I got my car back and they charged me for 1 extra quart of Mobil 1 stating that it needed 5 quarts. They couldn't explain why it only needed 4 quarts last time and needed 5 this time. Hope someone here can give me a better explanation than the service rep's "I don't know."

You only needed four quarts last time because either they......
Didn't replace the filter OR didn't completely drain the system. Unfortunately - they aren't going to admit to either. What's really odd is our 1.8T in the Avant only takes 3.7 quarts on an oil change due to a different oil pan.

I change my own oil for this reason. When I did I noticed if you completly drain oil pan for 15-30
minutes and change oil filter. You will need at least 4.5 quarts to 5.0. Hope this helps I would have to wonder if they completly drained the car the last time????????
