Default software upgrade?

wondering on the timing of getting the "chip" put in my car. i was not sure how the chip would react with other upgrades. such as FMIC and some modshack parts and possibly injectors(still debating). will it need to be updated after these parts are installed to achieve max efficiency/ performance, or does the chip update itself? is it better to wait till after more mods are in to have the chip installed?

Default Car will adapt to a certain point...>>

Mods tend to improve efficiencies and power. Sensors get bettter numbers and tell the ECU everything's OK. ECU then ups potential performance parameters...Timing, fueling maps, etc.

Basically doesn't matter when you chip. The mods you mention will maximize the benefits..

Default Re: software upgrade?

Chip will have no problem dealing with FMIC. Modshack parts are minor and computer can deal with them. Injectors may need a reprogram of the chip.

so there would be no need to retune after doing all of that stuff?

Default No......>

Car will adjust itself....

For instance, FMIC will result in a lower temp being recognized at the manifold temp sensor. This provides major input to the ECU. Lower temps means more timing can be advanced.

TTDA, Better air flow, higher MAF signal...ECU will adapt fueling to the new reality via that signal and the downstream 02 readings...

Once chipped, there's nothing really you can "Tune" except to optimize all the inputs.

Default Might want to tighten up that turbo intake hose, though. Otherwise you may run lean if you leak in

after the MAF.

Default I would not bet that it won't fall off. MarTT's hose came off very easily...

Others have reported how easy theirs came off as well. I don't see any way to put a new clamp on without diassembling everything again. The hose either has to come back off to slip on the clamp, or you have to loop a clamp over the end with the hose still mounted... Given the limited access, I don't see the "slip over" option as a real choice. It took me an hour to get my clamp on, but that beats 4 hours to take everything apart again!

Default That's pretty foolish...>>

Actually VERY foolish. A VAG isn't gonna show a leak there. You are definitely running the risk of burning lean from any leakage.

The consequences of that are pretty big ($$$ wise)

The clamp is not THAT tough to get on...
Reach down there with your left hand, a stubby ratchet and a 7mm socket. Tighten it. That's it. As mike pointed out though, sine the clamp is not even on the hose, you're gona have to pop it off again to slip the clamp on.....
