Default Is it legal in CA even if my area doesn't require smog inspections?

I was thinking of getting one of these probably next year sometime.

Default I live in a small town in Sonoma County. Smog inspections aren't required.

I have no idea why.

As long as I am active duty, I will not be required to get a CA inspection.

Default Cal DMV says "No military exemption"

Is there a military exemption from the smog inspection?
No, a smog inspection certification is required.<ul><li><a href="http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/smogfaq.htm">Linky</a></li></ul>

Default I spoke with 42DD about whether their cat would pass CA emissions

Their answer was that, even if there is no CEL, they will not guarantee that their downpipe with cat will pass the CA sniff test. I note that the particular Magnaflow cat they use is not CA-certified, but that Magnaflow does sell some replacement cats that are CA-certified.

The also told me that they have considered using a higher-efficiency cat on the downpipe, but are not offering anything right now.

I live in a smog-test-required CA county and I am going to hold off installing my 42DD downpipe until I am certain I will pass smog, given the destructive nature of stock DP removal.
