Squeaking brakes

Squeaking brakes
I have a 2004 TT conv. with 70,000 miles. Whenever I start moving the car, the brakes squeak when I first apply them. After a few minutes, it stops, only to return after the car sits for a while. I had the brakes checked and they are fine, 60% front 80% rear on the pads. Weather has no impact, as I live in the desert and it happens all year long. Any ideas on how to stop it would be appreciated.

There are some anti-squeal sprays out there. Don't know how effective they are. Bottom line is that the problem is either your pad composition and/or improper installation (missing shims, etc)

Shims or an uneven backplate are the primary causes of squeal. Rarely, caked-on dust/dirt where the pad engages with the caliper or carrier can also be the cause.
Cheap pads with no or too thin shims show their true value when they start making noise.
Ferodo and Jurid (OEM) are the best. That is what the car was designed with. The good aftermarket brands are fine. If buying by price, you're asking for trouble.

Did you try to put out some cheese in front of the car overnight?
Just kidding... I have that problem... for a good reason. My brakes were fading badly when doing long hard stops... usually from 60-90 to 0 (road not track). Talked to my mechanic and he fitted new performance pads... with a word of warning. He said when they are cold they will squeak. Other than that, the performance is super, so I don't mind the initial squeaking until the pads warm up. You might have the same type/material.
Depends on the driving you do... If you mind the squeaking, go for 'hairdresser' pads. If you're out for performance, bare your chest hair and warm up the pads. (Referring to the British TTs' reputation as a hairdresser's car).
