Still looking for the cheapest way to my fix my scuiffed ALMS wheels. Closest Hyper Silver paint..?
 

I need to match the Hyper Silver color of my RS4/ALMS wheels. Any ideas, other than paying $150-200/wheel to have them refinished?

"hyper silver" may be difficult to find. I was told it was illegal to use in the U.S.
 

because it contains mercury and general environmental nastiness, though some shops may still use it. If they do, expect to pay through the nose.

Generally, to make a wheel look nice after it's been scuffed, it needs to be sanded down and repainted anyway, which is going to cost you in the range you mentioned.

What I did with my ALMS wheels was to go through that process, and have them painted with a shade or two darker lamborghini silver metallic, which looks great with Avus Silver. Basically, you can have your wheels done in just about any shade if you're having them repainted. Naturally, I scuffed a wheel not long after the repaint. . . . . . . . . .. .. . . .. .

Local wheel repair (minor dings and curb rash) )uses some color match on HS: works fine.
 

Don't know of the facts behind the HS story and mercury. Mercury is banned nearly world-wide: hard to think the Germans (VERY green) would consider using it.

FWIW i used a local refinisher to do my wife's...
 

wheels on her Phaeton before turning it in and it was well worth the 150 per. They looked absolutely new and they came out to the house in a mobile refinishing truck and did it in an afternoon.

Way cheaper than buying new and probably nicer than trying to fudge it.

ahh, it's lead, that's what it was. true german hypersilver=bad. thanks andrew!
 

Sorry, as a pediatrician dedicated toward environmental medicine (yes I have a degree in this) I just can't have it. Regular paint isn't exactly green stuff, but at least it's lead free.
Glad to hear they've developed a paint process to match that's lead free!
