Default strut and shock questions...

I'll try to make this brief. My TT has 53k and has had an annoying rattle or clunking from the front end now for the last 5 or 6k miles anytime I go over any size bump, big or little. The car still rides great, just a lousy sound pretty much constantly. Before I replace the struts and shocks should I try just doing the mounts and the bearings to see if that is all it needs? I can't do the work myself so a local mechanic will do the job. If the mounts and bearings don't do the trick then should I go with the struts and shocks? I did have a mechanic try to find the rattle and he did inspect the front end and tell me that it appeared to be in ok shape. The car has never been driven hard(P.O. was a female) so I don't know if everything needs replacement or can I do just the minimum. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Default Posted this pic yesterday. Mounts were very worn

If you're in there (@ 53K) I'd replace the struts (with better ones) while you're at it.

Default totally sexist comment about the PO... vote to ban... ;-)

j/k... couple things though. First, if you have original shocks/struts, it will be worth it to replace them if you're paying a mechanic to go in there anyway. Unless you're really on a budget or selling the car soon, the cost of new Konis is pretty minimal. Second, I agree with JaziTT... the noise you describe is likely caused by worn-out upper mounts.
