Default Suspension - what's wrong in this picture?

Hello, my driver's side end of the strut tower brace has something sticking much higher out of it than the passenger's side (see attached photo).

Is it obvious what needs to be replaced? (strut?)

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm new to suspension stuff.

forgot to include pic of passenger side for comparison, see below.

The uneven-ness seems to indicate that the driver's strut mount is worn out... but both mounts were replaced fresh 5k miles ago, and I haven't been driving it heavily at all. Is there something else in there that could be causing a the uneven-ness?

Bad or missing or incorrect Upper Strut Mount or bearing or bushing.
Or, did prior owner throw on a mismatched strut on that side just to get the car on the road?
You need to remove the strut to get a better look.

Follow the service manual disassembly procedure. Some special tools, including a Spring Compressor may be required. Don't attempt without the proper wtitten procedures. Don't fall for youtube videos authored by someone not qualified to post them.

You could kill yourself or someone else if you dont heed this.

Got it. Thanks!

The struts are OEM and match. Replacing both upper strut mounts is actually the very last thing I ever had my mechanic do before I started DIYing stuff. That was about 5k miles of non-aggressive driving ago, and I haven't ever fiddled with the suspension myself since they were done. So I think that first thing I'll do is just bring it in to him for a look to see if there was an issue with his installation before I bother trying to get the right tools and expertise together to look at it myself. It seems unlikely for one these to have gone bad in 5k miles, right?

Agreed, it doesn't make sense.

Mechanic acknowledged that he must have goofed and re-did it free of charge. Thanks for the tip!!
