Tech question...6 speed tranny replacing a 5 speed

Tech question...6 speed tranny replacing a 5 speed
are the differentials the same ratio in the respective cars?
Or will I need to snag a rear axle assembly from the 225 as well?
TIA

The tranny it self should be a direct bolt in..this I know
However if the 225 and 180 had different final drive ratios in the transaxle+ rear axle...it would involve replacment of the rear axle for a 225.
I have a line on a 225 tranny...I'm thinking that if I get it and hopefully swap out a few cogs I'll be able to go beyond 170mph (theoretically of course)
M,

Yup, they're different, but final drive is the same. look at the link
Would the Haldex Control unit compensate for any diffs. I wonder?

2001 TT specs, 5spd 180- 6 spd 225

Something is funny there!
that only shows one ring and pinion, when the 225 has 2. the tranny is similar to the VW units in use now. 1-4 use 1 ring and pinion, 5-6 use another. the VR6 24v has the tallest 1-4 and the TT has the shortest. you'd still need to play around with them since 5-6 on the TT are the tallest. i'm sure with some math, you'd be able to pick you gearing perfect.

6 speed quattro has 2 final drives. Gear 1-4 is 4.2, gear 5-6 is 3.316.
The gearbox of the 5 gear quattro is the same as the 6 gear quattro. Only the 6th gear is missing and it hasn't got the 2 final drives.
