Default Texas peoples... Is this true?

I heard today that if you are driving through texas from another state and your window tint is darker than the texas legal limit, even if its perfectly legal in the state you are from... that texas patrol will make you peel your tint off on the spot or escort you to the state line.

Now... the kid I heard this from has been known to tell a few whoppers... but just thought I'd ask =P

Default compliance may be true (i believe that Cali has a out of state....

compliance law that even out of state registered vehicles to be in compliance with the result being a fine.

Peeling on site. That's rediculous. I'll have to ask my friend tomorrow that lives in Dallas.

No note on this website:

State tint laws...

Default Blu, this is false according to the TX state code from their site!

"(C) a motor vehicle that is not registered in this state.

(D) a vehicle that is maintained by a law enforcement agency and used for law enforcement purposes."

Entire code at link below:

Texas state tint code

Default I do know that states can issue tickets based upon THEIR laws.. not the laws in your state

regarding things such as window tint and the like.

However.. if you've EVER tried to remove tint.. I'd like THEM to try to do it on the spot. Not to mention that it'll likely take your defroster lines with it.

Default Which is somewhat a strong arm tactic according to the .. <more>

The Bureau of Motor Vehicles which has confirmed in contested situations that. . .

"The Department recognizes the Constitutional limitations in enforcing these provisions to vehicles registered out-of-state. In that regard, it has been the Department's practice to counsel law enforcement officials not to enforce these window tint provisions upon individual vehicle owners operating registered out-of-state vehicles."

<quoted from the PA DOT>

<similar quotes where found on google search for contested situations in other states>

"What he means is that it would be illegal for them to restrict Interstate Commerce by threatening or citing legal vehicle from other States that meet all Federal requirements." <quoted from same webpage>

link to complete doc...

Default Don't tell me.. you're talking to someone who argued in open court against tint tickets and won....

In NJ there are 2 tickets that they can write you up for.. and "technically" neither apply to window tint. One is basically for non-DOT approved equipment.. the other for impared visibility.
