Default Any dealer....>>

Should be able to pull up Warranty service records by Vin. They're all connected to the mother ship.

Default well, i ran the vin ...

and it doesn't say anything about electrical problems, but would it? it's out of state, and i was going to have it taken to a trusted local shop ... do you think i should find a dealer instead?

it's a spoilerless '00, but the carfax says "suspension serviced" ... i pray that doesn't mean they took the control arms out -- that and spoilerless are the reasons i'm even looking at it

Default Carfax isn't what you need to check...>

Have a dealer run the VIN. If Carfax is listing the recall service you can probably kiss those Mk 1 arms goodby......

Default Yup.......>

I'm assuming a 180 FWD? Mileage? Timing belt done?
Private party or dealer? Best to lay your eyes on it of course or get a zillion detailed pics....

Default Re: Yup.......>

quattro, private party, getting the timing belt replaced as soon as it gets to me.

i was wondering if there was a way to check clutch/tranny since the early 180's had problems, right?

also, a dealer will check this for you on the phone, or... ?

Default If you really want to get it checked out...>>

You need to have a Pre-purchase inspection done. Reputable indepenents, and sometimes dealers will do This. It can cost a couple hundred $$. This would take some coordination with the seller of course and may be viewed as a PITA. Often done with Porsches and other high end cars..

Some of the 5 speeds were notchy and problematic but by no means all of them. I've driven that exact car with 100K+ (and a stage 3) on it and seemed as tight as mine. You just never know.

Default Tylor, here is my opinion....

Obviously, Steve is dead nuts on throughout this conversation. You are going through exactly what I did just over 1 year ago.

Out of state purchase, I had a reputable (Carosal Audi) in MN do a full inspection, was around 195.00 I had it split with the seller! Great info, also recieved a print out from that Audi dealership on everything ever done to the car.

I drive a 2000 180 FWD and I love it, of course I would rather have a 225 Quattro ahh..the grass is always greener on the other side!

Good luck bro!

Default did you see your car in person first? ...

i don't think i will be able to :-(

i'm willing to pay $200 as long as it's accurate. my brother bought a car, had it inspected by a dealer, and later found out that the car was wrecked ... i don't want to make the same mistake.

this one is a quattro, which i absolutely need. the 180 would upset me if i didn't know a large turbo kit wasn't coming out soonish ;-)
