Things are improving...

They did a good job, especially considering it took about 30 minutes in all. After I was done I went next door to the guys who installed my Borla, as I was having some resonance issues. The exhaust had all the hangers in all the right places (thanks, Larry!), and nothing seemed amiss, until they checked the sleeve that connects the two halves, and the bolt was loose. Apparently, during the install, they left the bolt only partially tightened to allow some play in fitting it, but forgot to do a final tighten. That did the trick, no more resonance.
I left them, and headed to the car wash, had a basic wash done, drove it home, and did an HD-Cleanse followed by a 3m Hand Glaze, and a coat of Zymol Concours on the whole car. Oh, and it took me less than 2 hours for all three treatments, including setting the wax. And, I did the whole thing by hand, since (sheepish look) I had accidentally cut the only extension cord I have that's long enough to bring the buffer out. (OK, OK, I cut the cord last weekend with a hedge trimmer that was plugged into it - you should have seen my face when I realized I had gone all the way around the hedge and didn't see the cord as it had wrapped around, before cutting it cleanly in two with one pass.)
Anyway, I closed this trifecta with a race today. I dueled with an S2000 and ate him for lunch. After a brief head start, I caught up with him right away. I know with a chip and exhaust, my 225 must be at worst an even match in horsepower, but I blew past him pretty easily. He was in the front row and directly in front of me when the light turned green. I saw him depart with alacrity, so I decided to test my chip/exhaust, and I lit off after him, and moved into the left lane. We now both have clear lanes ahead of us, heading onto a two lane onramp to a highway. He saw that I was coming, so he nailed it. He pulled away a bit, but as my revs built, I lunged forward, closed the gap, and by the time I shifted into 4th, I was pulling away. At about 100 mph, I saw him back off, and he looked to be about 6-7 car lengths behind at that point. I backed off too, and that was it.
It's so odd to street race, as you never really know if the other person is really giving it their all, or if they rapidly exceed their abilities, etc., but hey, I had fun, and my car now feels (and sounds) like a real sports car now, so WTF, right?
With a contract for all airports in N. Cal, most in So. Cal and most major rental car agencies, the money being made is astronomical. Add to that the walk-in/call-in traffic at rates already mentioned and it should be no surprise that his annual take home is well over $5 mil. a year.
People doing the work in the field are trained and make well over $100k... many of them are quite young.
Gotta love it!
