Default For those that have installed the Sigma shift kit (I need a pointer)....

Any suggestions on an easy way to get the plastic sleeve to slide back on the shift cable. I've tried pulling to no avail. I've even put channel lock pliers (to try to pull it forward), but just broke part of the plastic ridge that holds the rubber boot. I can't think of any tool that would fit around it, but if pliers cannot pull it loose, I know I'm not going to get it with my fingers.

Default Hold the cable with pliers and turn the plastic boot end that you broke.

That will free it up and it will slide back and forth. I had the same problem.

Default I actually tried that, but could not even turn the plastic piece. I finally got it by...

putting a small pair of channel lock pliers (regular pliers should work) in front of the plastic piece, with only enough pressure on the pliers to keep it against the cable. Then I took a small hammer and banged on the front side of the pliers which finally broke the plastic piece loose (didn't break the plastic piece) and even pushed it in the right direction. :-) It would probably be even better if you had someone to hold the shifter while this is done to prevent the shifter in the car from banging around. It didn't seem to cause any problems even without a helper though.

Default Here's a hint from my writeup

If you have trouble moving the rubber boot and plastic ring to expose the end of the shift cables completely (I did - see the "Install Sigma shifter" section of the instructions, step 2), here's a hint: place a short piece of rubber hose over the shift cable threads, grab it with a pair of pliers, and then wiggle the plastic ring with another pair of pliers to get it to slide further up the cable and expose the necessary threads and smooth cable noted in the instructions. Once loose the ring was moved very easily. Everything else went as described in the instructions.

htt p://www.blackwood-wv.net/TTinWV/mods.htm#Dieselgeek%20Sigma%20Short%20Shifter</a

Default I used a closed end wrench and tapped with a hammer -->

See TTinWV's pic and where the tubing is, put the wrench. Then tap towards the rear on the side of the wrench.
