Time to Play: Where in the US is TTunable?
Since I will be un-employed around mid-Nov, unless a miracle happens...(not likely) and it's unlikely that I'll ever again get another 4 months off with pay. I've decided I'm going to take my first month off and travel, before looking for a new job.
So, I am planning a month-ish long trip from Thanksgiving onwards, traversing the country, seeing freinds and places that I've been neglecting. I have a lot of stops already on my list.
Outward bound:
Knoxville (Mom for T-day)
Virginia Beach (Sis)
Atlanta
Merritt Island (Dad)
Key West (be there a week or so, maybe longer ;-) )
Texas (Uvalde)(Favorite Aunt and Mom again)
LA
Vegas (Christmas)
HOmeward Bound:
SF
Portland
Seattle
Chicago
Home (Just after new years)
I'd like to start planning my route soon, so I can make the appropriate arrangments.
So, my question to you is (since I have never been past Knoxville TN by car):
What are worthwhile things to see and do, as I meander too and fro? From the cool to the mundane (Houses of Mud, etc) :-) Any GTG's anywhere during that time frame, etc. I figured I'd ask all of you since you live in all areas of the country and can me tell about things "tourists" might not know.
Open to all suggestions. Throw 'em out there. :-)

Skip the rest of your itinerary (especially any rectangular states!) and just go straight to TEXASS!
Seriously though let me know your travel plans - our time there might coincide... ;-)

Mark, why not consider a southern detour (outbound) to Arizona...
Sedona
Grand Canyon
Bryce Canyon
That is some of the ost beautiful country anywhere and it will be worth your while to head down for at least a few days.

Oh, if you make it as far west as LV, go down to SD and drive the coastal route all the way up...
It's something everyone should do at least once - fantastic vistas and an amazing landscape! Also, that way you can stop in Napa and send me much wine! ;-)
