Default Timing Belt inspection ????

Ok I turned 50000 mi this week. All this timing belt talk certainly has my attention. I'm going to go ahead and order a kit, even though CPO has assured me that I would be covered for damage related to a failure. ( I called them direct and asked after my dealer said that I would not be covered.) Two questions. Where is best place to get parts? and, Will cover come off enough to inspect the belt and check tension easily? I would like to do this before Barber DE. (forgive me for being too lazy to go look before I asked y'all.) :-)

TIA

Default Inspection is worthless. No way to tell condition of the parts that usually fail

tensioner, water pump.

Want to bring it to Atlanta next weekend? I'll help you change it.

That's right - the only solid approach is to replace every 60k. JIM

Default CPO told me that it "may or may not be covered"

after I called them for the same thing... For a while, I thought that it might have just been a better idea to let Audi foot the bill for the whole engine since it was under CPO and pay to get it done if it didn't go by the time the warranty was up.

Default Thanks for your magnanamous offer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going driving next weekend.
Wife wants to drive NC mountains to look at the leaves. She does pretty well looking fast :-).
About the timing belt. I can change one but it will have to wait a few weeks. Have had greasy hands for over 40 years now. Just getting a bit old and lazy. Anyway, sounds like a good rainy cold weekend project, if I don't get lazy or anxious and pay someone to do it.
See you at Barber.

Default No prob. This is definitely a 2 hands better than 1 task. If you're only @ 50K

I wouldn't sweat it too much. I did mine at 57k and other than a VERY leaky water pump the tensioner and belt were fine.

Default Roughly how long will it take a DIY'er to do a timing belt waterpump change on a 1.8T..

I have done many engine swaps, timing belts, waterpumps on various VW motors (8v, 16v, etc..) but I haven't done one on a 1.8T.... Is there any special tools I will need.... BTW I am in South Carolina if you wanna help

Default What do you guys think of the NEW ECS kits with the lightweight pulleys?

Is it worth the extra money or is the original kit just fine?
