Default Timing Belt Kit

It is time for this job so reading others experiences here on the forum I decided the smart thing to do was buy a kit from dieselgeek as so many have recommended. The trouble is dieselgeek does not sell the kit anymore. A few minutes of googling and I am overwhelmed; Rock Auto has 20+ timing belt kits listed for the 1.8. Does anyone have recommendations for or against other kits out there? Or what specifically was in the dieselgeek kit that everyone seems to like so much?

and provided a special tool for pulling the water pump. Have you called DeiselGeek to confirm they no longer sell the kit?

Yes, dieselgeek confirmed they do not sell the kit anymore due to low sales volume. They do have some other TT parts.

Hard to believe they dropped it due to sales since there are a lot of old MK 1 TTs out there

I bought a kit from ECS. Seems reasonable value for the money and it is quite complete. I don't recommend their instructions. I strongly recommend this set of instructions:

https://www.audiworld.com/forums/tt-...steps-1961739/

BUT use your marks on the camshaft and the flywheel as your reference point. I used the 68 teeth from the referenced instructions and ended up a couple or degrees off time. The car ran rough and threw a CEL. I redid that tonight and the car sounds so much better. While its past my bed time, it took a lot to not hope in and enjoy it on the open road.
