Default Timing Belt Repair Options: please give your input ->

spoke to my audi dealer service dept, said they would "help out" with the repair bill... but could not tell me to what extent over the phone. they need to diagnose the car themselves (makes sense) for a $105 service fee. then we know the costs i am looking at, and they can figure how much "help" they can give.

or

do i just have an independent shop do the repairs? i know i should just pay the dealer to do what they do best, and take anything they offer for "Help". but i cant help but feel like dealers inherently rip people off, no matter how "tight" i am with the service dept. its really a managerial issue when it comes to helping foot a repair bill out of warranty.

i guess my question is this: do i just pucker up and take it from the dealer, hoping for the best regarding the discount they can provide?

or do i let audi figure out whats wrong, for $105, and then price shop for repair costs, towing the car here, there, and everywhere?

thanks.

Default Go independent

As long as you have a good indi shop in your area, just take it there and be done with it. Dealer $s are 1.5-2x higher than indi, and the service (in my experience) is generally worse than an independent shop wth a good mechanic.

Worth a $105 gamble to see how much $ Audi will pony up.

Default no way. that just opens up the door to your wallet.

unless you have warranty or extended warranty. i would take it to a trusted independent...it'll cost you less, take less time and there will less BS dealing with it.
