Timing Belt and water pump project
 

I was wondering if anyone could tell me a solution to my problem. My problem is that my car wont start after putting on a new timing belt and water pump. My timing belt went out on me while i was driving to my house. I pulled over right away to not damage the valves. The timing is right and I have everything put together, but when I try to start it, sounds like the battery is dieing and like its bogging out like there isnt enough gas getting into it? It has been sitting for a lil over 3 weeks due to work... So i dont know if that is a factor or not?

I am not sure it's possible "to pull over right away and save the valves".

The damage is usually all done way before that point.

You need to do a compression or leak-down test before you do anything.

When the timing belt goes, you bend valves everytime.

Around 160 Milliseconds for (2) rotations of the crank at idle.

That being said there are people who have got lucky but it's very very rare.

My TT is getting a new timing belt, water pump, serpentine and axle boots today! With 115K and an unknown service history, I figured I'd better get the timing done asap. I've been scared to wind it up at all since I got it last month.

Oh ok I see. Well thanks for info. And if the teeth on the belt broke would there still be an opportunity for the crank to turn? Or by the car moving is enough?

The crank drives the belt and the belt drives the camshafts not the other way round.

If the belt breaks the camshafts stop moving. If the valves were actually open at that time the pistons will hit them.

This is what interference engines do. When the pistons are at TDC the valves must be closed.

Your best bet is a leakdown or compression test. Sometimes the heads can be rebuilt.
